![]() God’s ultimate way for us to have peace was by sending his son for us. Yes, Jesus birth was a special gift for us. All we have to do is accept that Jesus is the son of God and he is our Lord and Savior. We can find that this kind of peace does come from Jesus birth by reading John 3:16-18 “16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” Let’s look at three phrases from this passage of John 3:16-18 “whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”; “that the world through him might be saved”; and “He that believeth on him is not condemned”. Now all three of these phrases refer to having peace beyond what the worldly system can give us. The most important phrases are “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son and For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world”. The big question is how does Jesus bring that kind of peace to us? Let’s take a look at Matthew 10:34 and see what it says “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” The beginning of this verse can be very confusing when Jesus’ says this. Why did Jesus say this? See, the worldly system doesn’t have a problem entertaining sinful ways. Jesus wasn’t sent to come into an agreement with the ways of the worldly system but to break its hold on us to keep us from being drawn into sin. This is why Jesus opened with these two statements out of John3:16-17. “16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…” and “17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world…” This is why Jesus was born; he was given or sent to demolish or destroy those sinful ways so that we could have that peace we’re suppose to have. It was the beginning process to return us back to God and his ways. Then Jesus closed out with “I came not to send peace, but a sword.” from Matthew 10:34. We’ll talk about what Jesus meant. The sword represents the word of God. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” See the sword or word of God was to accomplish something that the worldly system couldn’t do for us and that was to relieve all our problems to the fullest. Let’s read Luke 4:18-19 “18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” We also need to remember the word of God is stronger than any two edged sword. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” It is the true words of God that gives us our peace. That’s why Jesus needed to use the sword or word of God immediately and begin destroying the sin that is in us or surrounding us. That is why scriptures like Luke 4:18-19 are in the word of God. Verse 18 is actually stating we’re not living with full peace when we are surrounded by the conditions listed in verse 18 “the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised”. These are the conditions that weigh us down. We have to be careful because some standards of the worldly system offers or only gives us temporary relief, but verse 19 states that we will have that true peace and that it comes from the word of God. Verse 19 talks about the real peace of God, “To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” The day we accept the truth about God’s word and most of all accept his son as Lord and Savior is the day we will be set free. This also means that peace can be given any day or any hour. Anytime we decide to bring that peace into our hearts, Jesus delivers it to us. That why it’s the acceptable year of the Lord. Ultimately, we’re removing what is negative and weighs us down from verse 18 out of our lives and replacing it with the peace of God’s word that is now being established inside of us as well as around us. We need to understand if God had not sent his son to earth to die a sinner’s death and if Jesus had never demonstrated or performed his word to help remove the power of sin and death, and other problems from our lives we wouldn’t be able to see the true peace of God working in our lives. God brought peace to us through Jesus being born here on earth as man and through his earthly ministry all the way through his work on the cross, being crucified, risen, and now seated at the right hand of the Father. Jesus had to go through it all or we couldn’t have it all.
