Salvation the Turning Point Towards Real Obedience

Why is salvation a turning point towards obedience to God?  Well, salvation brings us into obedience of what is needed for God’s word, his power and protection to begin in our life.  Generally, we breakdown and wear out from doing it our way only to realize just how much we truly need God.  Yes, God works on everybody differently to bring us to salvation.  The number one thing we have to recognize is that we have to get rid of our fleshly ways or what we call our sinful nature.  Take a look at Ephesians 2:1-3 “1) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:  3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.”
This passage describes the very essence of what our nature is when outside of salvation.  See, we may be alive by flesh but our spirit man is not alive.  Being outside of God is why we become selfish, prideful, and achieve things in a worldly way.  For many, they feel that they are in control and can even feel the experiences of living the real fruit of the spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23 “22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Some will even show the motion of loving our neighbor properly which is found in Matthew 22:39 “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”  While you may feel like you love your family and your neighbor, you’re still not saved, if you haven’t fully confessed Jesus is Lord and asked him to forgive you and to come into your heart.
The bible clearly states to be saved we have to admit we are a sinners.   Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” which this verse clearly points to Ephesians 2:1-3; that we did have a past to deal with.  Now, take a look at Romans 10:8-10 “8) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; [Somebody had to preach it to us.] 9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Ask yourself are you being obedient to yourself or to God.  Let’s look at an example that we are facing right here and right now.  Let’s look at this Covid-19 situation.  Local stores may by requiring a mask; some have even placed directional markers on the floor to help shoppers practice social distancing.  Can you wear the mask and do what the stares have asked you?  What if God had these corporate businesses do this for your protection? Can you break the rules and still expect God to protect you?  No.  Remember when Moses instructed the Jews to post blood on their door posts?  These instructions required strict obedience or it meant the lost of their firstborn.  Doing things our own way keeps us from seeing the warning signs that can put us in God’s protection. Then many of those same people, struck by some disaster, start asking God where are you.
This is why we need salvation, so our spirit, being made alive in Jesus, can help guide us away from disasters.
God will never leave us nor forsake us as long as we are looking towards him, Deuteronomy 4:31 “(For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.”
God is obedient to his own word and he wants us to be obedient to his word as well.
When we become born again, our spirit man helps us to recognize obedient and disobedient ways.  We still have a choice to follow or not to follow, but if were truly saved our spirit will kick in and tell us which way we should truly follow.
