![]() Road signs will give us the indication we can move safely forward. Some road signs are about giving us a warning we’re about to face. That’s how specific road signs are meant to be. Not any road sign should be taken for granite such as an attitude like “oh, it will be okay to do it this time.” It means exactly what it says, so ignoring them is not an option whatsoever. What can happen if we ignore these road signs? A ticket can be served or a possible wreck that will raise insurance rates. There are so many variables that can go into failing to obey any road sign, especially those that prevent us from getting into danger. Road signs were meant for us to agree with them for our own safety, or to come into agreement with. Road signs remind me of 1 Corinthians 1:10 “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” Now what does this have to do with Christians? Before we get started in this, we must remember, if we don’t agree with God’s word and how blessings or curses work; how can we show any one else? Look at Habakkuk 1:4 “Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.” Can we see a problem here? This is to remind us to stop confusing what is right and what is wrong. This verse is telling us it can cause many to stumble or possibly even get someone hurt. Now, let’s look at this from a perspective of an agreement and how it can also relate to loving our neighbor or not loving them? We already know loving our neighbor is a commandment. Yes, this can be compared to following a road sign, too. When we ignore love it’s like breaking the law of safety for others. We must realize how this can affect our friendship or relationship with someone. Let’s look at Romans 13:9. The overall scripture is about following the Ten Commandments. What I have done is put in a contrast in parenthesis when we ignore warning signs and how it takes a toll on a true friendship. It’s that important to be aware of the signs to stabilize that friendship or relationship. Romans 13:9 “For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery (Ignored a no left turn sign and committed adultery anyways.), Thou shalt not kill (Ignored a no right turn sign and committed violence.), Thou shalt not steal (Totally ignored a do not enter sign.), Thou shalt not bear false witness (Made an improper u-turn on a friend.), Thou shalt not covet (Voided a stop sign to gain something out of lust.); and if there be any other commandment (avoiding a one way sign. God’s commandments are a one way direction. It’s either right or its wrong.), it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” So, when we break the road signs we’re not in unity and can’t come into an agreement for our safety as with those who we hurt. The blessings of following the road signs is being free from tickets, lawsuits from someone, and insurance rates going up or any other problems involved with being disobedient of a road sign, in our case it’s the word of God. So, how can we be perfectly joined together relating to the word agreement? Romans 13:10 “Love worketh no ill to his neighbour (following the proper road signs prevents us from having any ought against a brethren): therefore love is the fulfilling of the law (Makes it easier for others to see the love of Christ that’s in us towards others).” Can it affect a group, too? Yes, it can happen to groups. When part of a group chooses to go one way and another group chooses to go into a different way, this creates mass confusion in the original group. That’s why we see people leaving a group and starting a new one. We see an example of this in the bible. When the twelve spies go and spy out the promise land. Only two spies ended up believing it was the promise land. The report of the other ten spies claimed it was impossible and wasn’t in an agreement. Numbers 14:2 “And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!” Division has now taken place among the people. Numbers 14:4 “And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.” This is so sad to see a group of believers coming against each other instead of holding on to faith together. Moses, Aaron, Joshua and Caleb were the ones who represented a unity of agreement. Numbers 14:5-6 5) “Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel 6) And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:” It makes it very difficult to expand God’s Kingdom when one minute you agree and the next you don’t. Road signs are no different. We can’t break them with a bunch of exceptions and expect real advancement. Let’s close out with what Jesus says about disagreement and agreements. Matthew 12:25 “And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:” Jesus was actually telling us that disagreements destroys, it doesn’t build. Later, Jesus tells us how important coming into an agreement is needed. Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Remember Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” For those who don’t know Jesus, don’t come to a dead end; pass through into your covenant blessing by getting to know Jesus by going to Do You Know Jesus.
